KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

KPAM 860’s Victoria Taft moved Monday morning to a new time slot, going head-to-head with conservative talk radio host Lars Larson.

The Victoria Taft Show is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving her an hour’s head start on Larson, the dean of local conservative talk show hosts.

Taft’s time change is part of a schedule shuffling for the AM-860 talk radio and news station. The changes include adding Fox talk show host John Gibson in the mid-morning and conservative stalwart Michael Savage to the evening drive-time slot.

Clark Howard’s show will be moved to the evening.

“Our audience expects the best from us and I think the new lineup will exceed expectations,” said Rick Belcher, KPAM general manager. “We are firmly committed to local coverage, and Victoria will have four hours a day instead of three to discuss issues relevant to Portland and Vancouver.”

With the changes, the KPAM lineup will be: Bob Miller In the Morning, the king of local talk radio, from 5 to 9 a.m.; John Gibson from 9 to 11 a.m.; Savage from 3 to 6 p.m.; Hugh Hewitt, a constitutional lawyer and national talk show host, 6 to 9 p.m.; Clark Howard, 9 to 11 p.m.

Syndicated hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin moved their shows to other talk radio stations, freeing up KPAM time slots, Belcher said.

KPAM 860 is part of the Pamplin Media Group, which also owns the Portland Tribune and Community Newspapers.

Clark Howard deserves a better time slot. Keep him in the morning. All talk shows don't need to be all political.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I would be considered a moderate conservative and I do like to hear about the lies and cheating our politicians and political system does on a daily basis. Having said that, I don't like your new line up. It get's old hearing repetitious chat from multiple hosts repeating the same talking points over and over. I enjoyed hearing Clark Howard at the 9-noon slot, on his advice about daily scams, investments, tech and travel info.

You know, useful stuff we don't normally get from most politicians. His new slot does not work for me , so I guess I will be looking elsewhere for his type of help, but not at his new slot or on your station.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I am just very disappointed in your line-up change. Love Bob Miller in the morning, but always really looked forward to Clark Howard.

There are plenty of conservative talk shows on all the time, and Clark was a breath of fresh air. His 9 - 11 slot won't work for me. Sure wish I knew of another station around here with something besides conservative politics. I'll start looking and hopefully find something.

Thanks for the pleasure you have brought in the past with Clark Howard..............Nancy

Clark Howard is the only possible reason I'd ever listen to K-scam. Right wing nuts are now crawling over each other....

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

NO!! More of the same. We hear the same thing from so many right-leaning hosts that Clark Howard was a welcome change of subject. We'll not be able to listen very often in this new slot. Evening television, etc. The Beaver broadcasts will be our only reason to tune in from now on. (Miller the other exception)

Thank You.

I enjoyed listening to Taft and Howard but won't be able to now.

Tim, you might want to try KBNP - 1410 to replace Clark Howard. Ray Lucia is on from 9-12. It's more financial planning but still informative and enjoyable

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

Clark Howard was the only reason I listened to your station. Putting him at night is ridiculous. I would listen to Bob Miller only because he was before Clark. Now, I will never listen to KPAM.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I was shocked to turn on 860 this afternoon and hear Michael Savage in Mark Levin's place. Mark Levin has got to be one of the brightest hosts out there--his perspective is invaluable. Clark Howard was also a breath of fresh air in his time slot. Victoria is great, but the shift in programming doesn't seem to be in the best interest of your listeners. I suppose time will tell whether this was a good choice or a flop. I'm leaning toward the latter.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I thought something was wrong this morning when I tried to tune in for my morning dose of Clark Howard--refreshing, interesting, informative, helpful AND POSITIVE. With my busy life, like other respondents here, I am unable to tune in to listen to Clark in the evening.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH YOUR NEW LINE-UP & NOW HAVE NO REASON TO TUNE IN TO 860 AT ALL.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I am very disappointed that you chose to remove Hannity and Levin from your lineup. The only place we can get the other side of what the liberal media puts out or should I say what they don't put out. I'll be tuning out from now on. Levin is on the internet and Hannity is on Fox news so who needs radio?

Big mistake moving Clark Howard to the pm hours. Mark me down as yet another lost listener, from a prime demographic no less.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

Sorry to see Clark Howard move to the night shift. I've always enjoyed his show, even came to the Oaks Park personal appearance events. Bad idea. Fortunately, I can still find Mark and Shawn at AM 970 for my afternoon commute.

Bob Miller is the remaining bright star - I'm a regular 5 o'clocker every weekday.

Too bad that Pamplin Media has let so much good talent get away.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I think moving Clark Howard from the morning slot is a big mistake. I will miss him and unfortunately will not be able to listen to him in the late time slot. Good useful practical advise is going to be missed by many who will not be able to listen to him at night. Once again, a big big mistake. At this point I guess you still have me for the Bob Miller show but that's it.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

What are you thinking!? I turned to KPAM yesterday morning for my Clark Howard - and what did I get - NOT what I was looking for! I listened for a minute hoping that this was not a permanent change - and then turned off your station. Clark is the only reason KPAM is on my preset - even my children know him. I listen to him while running errands in the morning. The late evening time spot is not what we are looking for with Clark. Put Clark back where he belongs - 9 to noon, weekdays. Could you please not play the garbage talk that other AM stations run in the morning - be different - be appreciated - bring Clark back to where he belongs, 9 to noon, weekdays.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I am a regular am 860 listener... both for Bob Miller and especially Clark Howard. As a professional I appreciate his financial advise as I am commuting &/or getting ready for work. I site him frequently to friends/associates as he is well respected. I am disappointed as others have mentioned. I don't need anymore screamers on the radio w/ extremist positions. I'm already looking for an alternate am station since I don't frequently "surf". Disappointed.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

Yes - Clark Howard is also the reason I listen to KPAM and Victoria Taft drives me nuts and I am fairly conservative. She always seems to be making mountains out of mole hills. If she doesn't have some controversy to talk about, she turns something into a controversy.

I am very disappointed that Clark is being moved and that his show is being shortened. Hopefully, he will move to another station and then I can just take KPAM off my presets.

This is the second time in recent years they've moved Clark Howard. Each time, they lose me entirely as a listener.

Such a shame.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

Wanted: Clark Howard, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM weekdays. The ONLY thing worth listening to on any station in the entire PDX market at that time. KPAM just lost a spot on my preset as well.

The guy deserves his spot back. Unlike so many others on the AM dial, he's actually a contributing member to civilization. He even serves in the military for Pete's sake. Can't say so about any of the other jokers in KPAM's line up.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I LOVE Clark Howard! How could you move him to a time that no one will hear his excellent advice? During times like these, we all need to "Save more, spend less, and avoid getting ripped off." I am afraid I will not listen to KPAM at all anymore-no Sean, Mark, or Clark at a convenient time. Thank you for having them the past few years. I have enjoyed listening to them on your station.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

Well, add me to the great majority of people commenting on your "shuffle" - the dissatisfied, unwashed horde. Without Mark Levin & (especially) Clark Howard, I have no reason to tune into your station. Yeah, yeah, I know that Clark is still with KPAM at night. But, as you must be aware (or should be, at least), around 5:30 PM your signal is overridden by other stations for those of us fortunate to live far enough away from the city of perverted mayors - more than one - & $20,000,000+ bike paths.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

I'll agree with the other commenters for the most part. I only listened to Taft because that is what was on at that time and I liked your traffic reports. I didn't really care for her way of dragging things out. Her show moves too slow. I have no reason to listen to her earlier. I liked John Gibson at night. I won't listen in the morning. Sorry. I get Rush at 9 and won't change before noon. I might listen to Lars, depending on his topic of the hour, otherwise Sean and Mark. Don't care for Savage, Beck, Ingraham, or the others on KPAM. I'll still listen to Bob Miller, but that is about it.

Re: KPAM lineup shuffle puts Taft on talk show frontlines

Please bring Clark Howard back to his morning time slot. His ratings probably went down some with all the health care debate but I would be willing to bet they would be back up now that a lot of that is over. He makes good sense and helps us with financial advise. PLEASE bring him back to the AM spot..
